If you're attending uni听in the evening there are regular buses to and from campus, which run past the last lecture finishing times,听to ensure all students听can travel safely. Check the , 听and websites for full details.

Parking restrictions on Talbot Campus听are lifted after 4pm, so you are able to听park for free if you need to attend campus in the evenings. At Lansdowne Campus, both Studland House and Bournemouth Gateway Building car parks are pay and display for students after 4pm.听

Several buildings on both campuses are open later in the evening, you can check all of the听building opening times听on the website. Both Poole House,听Talbot Campus, and听Bournemouth Gateway Building,听Lansdowne Campus, are听open 24/7, with security staff available at the main receptions.听

Should you find yourself a victim of crime please collect and complete a crime reporting form from your nearest听reception.

All crimes must be reported to鈥�鈥痑nd a crime number obtained, this should be included on the crime reporting form. This number will be required in order to facilitate any assistance from the Police or by your insurance company should you wish to claim.

Forms for Talbot Campus should be returned to Poole House reception, and for Lansdowne Campus to听Bournemouth Gateway Building听reception.

These forms are then passed to our security team for processing, who will contact you directly.

BU Facilities Management will maintain the CCTV system to the standard of 鈥淏est Practice鈥� in line with regulatory requirements. BU will only supply visual data to the Police if requested, in order to assist in the reduction and prevention of crime on campus and the immediate surrounding areas.

Due to data protection considerations, only听the Police will be permitted to view relevant data.

Cycling is a cheap and sustainable form of travel, plus it鈥檚鈥痑 great way to get to and from听uni.听There are secure cycle compounds on campus and at the halls of residences.

It鈥檚 important to be aware of fire safety on campus.鈥疶he following advice will tell you how to raise the fire alarm on discovering a fire, and what action you need to take when hearing the fire alarm:

• If you discover a fire 鈥� sound the alarm using the nearest call point听
• Evacuate immediately if the fire alarm activates, closing doors behind you听
• Make sure you know the escape routes from areas you normally use听
• Do not use the lifts if the alarm is sounding听
• Always make your way to the Fire Assembly Point 鈥� don鈥檛 stay鈥痭ear the entrance doors听
• Do not go back into the building until authorised.

If you discover a fire on campus call鈥疊U reception鈥痮n 01202 962222 from your mobile, or via landline on 222, who will then鈥痑lert鈥痶he fire service and direct them to where they need to go on campus.听

Please note: Alert a member of BU staff as early as possible if you听require extra assistance听to exit a building in the case of emergency听and are unable to follow the above fire evacuation procedure (e.g. due to impairments, disabilities or injuries, either on a temporary or permanent basis) - you will be supported to complete a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP).听

Gas leaks are a dangerous situation and it鈥檚 crucial to act quickly in a gas emergency. Here鈥檚 what to do (and not do) should you smell gas:

DO听

• Report it:听Call the BU emergency desk on extension 222 on an internal telephone or call 01202 962222 on any external/mobile telephone听

• If the smell is indoors, try and get fresh air immediately; open all external windows and doors to the room to ventilate the area听

• Close all doors leading onto corridors and adjacent rooms.听听

• If in doubt, get out:

• Evacuate the area calmly

• If the Estates Team is present, they will coordinate safe evacuation听

• If not, please evacuate each floor/area/building and head to a safe, suitable evacuation area听听

• The person initiating the evacuation will need to brief the Estates team

• Anyone feeling unwell should visit their GP or hospital. If you or someone else is displaying severe symptoms, seek medical help by calling 222 or 01202 962222.听

DO NOT听

• Turn electric switches ON or OFF听
• Turn computers or monitors OFF听
• Use the lifts to exit the building
• Smoke, or use mobile phones in the immediate area听
• Leave it to someone else to report听
• Remain within or return to the evacuated building/area听
• Use the fire alarm to initiate the evacuation due to risk of igniting a fire.听

• Are being cautious听
• Talk to your bank if you are concerned about activity linked to your bank account(s)听
• Are aware of the serious consequences of involvement in criminal activity.

Take a walk along your fire escape route:

• From where you regularly study to all floor fire exits听(i.e. to the stairs or external exits if on the ground floor)听
• From fire exits on the floor you regularly study to the relevant external exit doors of the building听(i.e. from the stairs to the exit used to leave the building)听
• A physical walk of route(s) to the location of the building鈥檚 Fire Assembly Point(s) (If not obvious from final fire exit).听

Fire- and smoke-resisting doors are important in preventing the spread of fire and smoke:

• Doors marked as 鈥楩ire Door Keep Shut鈥�/鈥楩ire Door Keep Locked鈥� must be kept closed and NOT propped or wedged open under any circumstances听
• Where doors are marked 鈥楢utomatic Fire Door Keep Clear鈥� then the door will release on activation of the fire alarm system and must not be obstructed.听

Fire safety equipment:

• Please do not tamper with, move or cover any fire equipment including extinguishers, smoke sensors and alarms
• Tampering with, or removing, fire or鈥痟ealth and鈥痵afety equipment will attract a financial penalty, and under certain circumstances render residents liable to criminal prosecution
• This includes unlawfully setting off alarms and extinguishers, and/or covering or tampering with smoke detectors.
